Erste Gruppenreise der Welt
Heute vor 171 Jahren, am 5. Juli 1841 veranstaltete der Brite Thomas Cook die erste organisierte Eisenbahn-Reise zwischen Leicester und Loughborough. Obwohl nur 40 Kilometer weit, war dies die erste Gruppenreise der Welt. Wenig später gründete Cook das erste Reisebüro - der Beginn des Massentourismus.

Zum Jubiläumstag, heute am 5. Juli 2012 mache ich mit dem ‘Quer durchs Land Ticket’ der Bahn auf, um einen Tagesausflug von Berlin nach Halberstadt und zurück zu unternehmen. Anlass ist der 12. Klangwechsel des Stückes ORGAN2/ASLSP von John Cage. Eine Komposition mit der Anweisung diese ‘As SLow aS Possible’ (ASLSP) zu spielen. In Halberstadt entschied man sich für eine Gesamtlänge von 639 Jahren! Dementsprechend ist jeder Klangwechsel ein Event das im Durchschnitt nur einmal im Jahr stattfindet. Wer den heutigen Wechsel (Pause: a‘, c“, fis“) verpasst sollte sich das nächste Datum, den 05.10.2013 im Kalender notieren da danach der Klang für fast sieben Jahre bis zum 05.09.2020 konstant bleibt.

For the dOCUMENTA (13) Uli Schuster shows an object from his personal collection. Presence resp. absence are themes which are a red line in his work. For Super Conspiracy he had chosen a flexible and moldable object from thick fabric. While the first impression is linked to the recognition of an object of daily life and human size. Questions of ownership and gender pop up. Today artworks are often produced by a 3d printer. He brought a traditional manufactured piece. Designed in Sweden - produced in China. Reflecting the globalization of products of today.

The paternoster – “an endangered species”. Take a round in a nostalgic elevator. Sightsseing with style. Discover Berlin.
The wonderful wodden cabins move in a certain smooth speed. And the sound while they shift to the other side at the bottom and the top are peculiar for the manual skills of the elevator.
While the majority of the paternosters were shut down. A few are still in use. I will take you with me to three which you can use.
Handtuch Tag - Towel Day 2012
Der Tag zu Ehren von Douglas Adams.
Der Towel Day ist ein Gedenktag für den Autor Douglas Adams der durch sein Buch ‘Per Anhalter durch die Galaxis’ (Original: ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’) weltweit bekannt wurde. Kurz nach seinem Tod dem 11. Mai 2001, wurde zur Ehren von D. Adams ein Gedenktag ins Leben gerufen: der 25. Mai. An diesem Tag sind jedes Jahr seine Fans aufgerufen ein Handtuch sichtbar zu tragen.

Urban time stamps
I submitted nine photos to the competition: beyond memory. A preview here and on the site of the competition.
The combination of architecture, space, light and urban landscape creates an atmosphere of a certain moment. A time stamp which open up thoughts and questions.
Concrete and light as marker of history in the urbanity. Abstraction and cut outs as a trigger of imagination. Photos create memory. They are not final result but rather a start to imagine and to remember.
The set of photos here are part of my series ‘eye on detail’. Which is an ongoing project as artist and researcher to collect moments of my urban surrounding.
